The Chilli Boys are yet again without a coach following the decision by chairman Siviwe Mpengesi not to keep Lehlohonolo Seema despite guiding them to safety on the final day of the DStv Premiership.
Seema had taken charge of the remaining four league matches, but has since been informed his services will not be needed.
Badela is one of the brightest minds in the Premier Soccer League at the moment, but with All Stars FC selling their Motsepe Foundation Championship status in the second tier this means the young mentor is unattached.
Meanwhile, Kopo has recently left Pretoria Callies days after their heavy 4-0 defeat to Polokwane City, who gained promotion to the topflight thanks to a result the coach suggested could have been influenced.
It’s been widely reported that Mammila is set for a surprise return to Gqeberha although Swallows FC have not come out publicly to confirm he is leaving the Soweto outfit where he was appointed technical advisor in March.
Mammila has a long-standing relationship with Chippa – he’s worked there as an administrator and coach last season.
While the public broadcaster’s sport desk has it on good authority Mammila has been approached by Chippa and already indicated he is keen to reunite with the Chilli Boys, it’s not yet clear whether Badela and Kopo will accept.
Mpengesi’s reputation of hiring and firing, as evidenced by coaching merry-go-round during this past campaign with Daine Klate, Mammila, Kurt Lentjies and Seema, could put them off.
But it’s understood the chairman will attempt to bring the trio together – the worst case scenario being Mammila helping with the search to look for other alternatives if he doesn’t become the sole head coach.
