Lesotho coach believes that an upset is on the cards for Bafana Bafana

Lesotho national team head coach Leslie Notsi says they can pull off an upset against Bafana Bafana in this evening’s 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier at the new Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane.

Notsi was speaking to the media just before their final training session before this game at the match venue last night.

Likuena, as they are popularly known, come to this game highly motivated, playing against their neighbours.

"Bigger matches gives us an opportunity to engage ourselves much, much better or more than the previous matches. So, we're saying this is another test for us and with the quality that they have then we need to test ourselves and go for a game,” Notsi said.

“Go for it and see how we can fair and we believe that an upset can be there and we should just go engage ourself in the best way we can."

Lesotho have proven to be very competitive in the year, particularly managing away draws against teams like Nigeria, home wins against Zimbabwe, and a draw against Benin. Notsi believes that his team has seen stronger battles before to be ready for this game.

"On paper, South Africa is considered a bigger team but in sporting terms, yes of course, one would always respect the opponent but we have played bigger footballing countries and we have brought results,” the coach added.

“So, same, giving them respect in that regard does not say we are just coming to add the numbers or to fulfil the day. We know what they possess, we also have our strengths which we believe in and we believe these kinds of games, we cherish these kinds of matches which we believe bring the best out of us.

“So, we come in to be very competitive and hence we are saying, we're looking forward to this fixture."
