Sekhukhune United offload three senior players to begin squad refresh

Sekhukhune United have parted company with three senior players, whose contracts are running up at the end of this month, SABC Sport can reveal.

The public broadcaster has been informed that defenders Siphosakhe Ntiya-Ntiya and Edwin Gyimah, as well as midfielder Sibusiso Vilakazi were notified by Babina Noko this week that their services will not be required going forward.

It’s part of the process for a squad review ahead of the 2024/25 campaign, for which a new coach is also expected to be announced in the coming days.

Lehlohonolo Seema was suspended in the final week of the previous campaign for an alleged fall-out with the hierarchy, and will now be replaced, with Sekhukhune having already sounded out a few options.

As far as the playing personnel is concerned, Babina Noko have been linked with several players in the market, but the club are yet to make any official announcements.

However, the public broadcaster can confirm Ntiya-Ntiya – former Kaizer Chiefs left back  – will not return to the club, so too ex-Orlando Pirates centre-back Gyimah and Vilakazi, 2014 PSL Footballer of the Season.

Ntiya-Ntiya joined from Amakhosi two seasons ago, while Gyimah arrived a year earlier from Black Leopards, with Vilakazi also signed on a free transfer from TS Galaxy a few months before the start of the 2023/24 campaign.

The trio all struggled for game time under coach Seema, and it is no surprise they have been officially been allowed to leave and look for new opportunities, effective 1 July when the transfer registration opens in the Premier Soccer League.
