It’s emerged that unless the club moves swiftly to offer the player a new contract, the former junior international is expected to continue his career elsewhere in the Premier Soccer League – or even abroad – next season.
Webber joined SuperSport from Stellenbosch FC five years ago as a young prospect while Kaitano Tembo was in charge, quickly establishing himself as a first team player in the seasons that followed.
But it is understood the option on his contract has not been exercised, with SABC Sport being informed the pre-agreed date has lapsed.
That scenario then allows Webber to open talks with any interested suitor according to FIFA rules, meaning the midfielder can sign a pre-contract and move on from the Tshwane outfit effective 1 July.
Webber has not seen as much game time during the current 2022/23 campaign as the previous one before Gavin Hunt returned as coach – he has made 15 appearances in all domestic competitions compared to the 31 from last season.
SuperSport signed Siphesihle Ndlovu as well as Grant Margeman from Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns respectively, two transfers that have clearly limited Webber’s game time and perhaps even delayed the decision to trigger the option.
According to sources, there are no formal offers yet for the player in the PSL or elsewhere, but that’s not to say there have not been any inquiries.
