SuperSport United agree terms with Chippa midfielder

SABC Sport has been informed that SuperSport United have agreed terms with midfielder Brooklyn Poggenpoel ahead of the new campaign.

The 24-year-old is understood to have been out of contract at Chippa United and was immediately scooped up by the Tshwane giants when he became a free agent.

Poggenpoel joined the Chilli Boys two years ago from National First Division side All Stars has managed 44 matches since, with 22 of them coming during the previous season under coaches Morgan Mammila, Kwanele Kopo and Thabo September.

The public broadcaster can further reveal that Poggenpoel has travelled with SuperSport to Botswana, where they are holding a training camp over the next few days.

It’s believed the deal is not quite sealed yet as the Matsatsantsa hierarchy still have to give it the greenlight for coach Gavin Hunt to officially add the player to his roster.

The two will not be strangers to one another as Poggenpoel is a former Bidvest Wits academy player, a club where Hunt won the league title in 2017 before the club surprisingly sold its topflight status three years later.

SuperSport have been active of late in the market and should the Poggenpoel deal go ahead – as expected – then he join a long list of new players arriving to beef up Hunt’s squad for the coming season.

They’ve already captured the signature of defender Pogiso Sanoka, Nyiko Mobbie and Vincent Pule, while goalkeeper Ricardo Goss returns from Mamelodi Sundowns.
