The South Africa striker had been out of action for the past few weeks as he battled with his mental health.
Foster was subsequently withdrawn from the Bafana squad for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations after discussions between Kompany and national team boss Hugo Broos.
But he now looks to be on the road to recovery after coming through 90 minutes against the Villans on Saturday, and scoring the Clarets second goal.
Speaking after the game, Kompany said in the Guardian: "We were dealing with a human tragedy really, a young lad who had lost it completely such a good lad as well.
"To see him get back up, just enjoying the game, being out there on the pitch with his teammates, smiling after the game, I can go away from being a manager [and] as a human being, I'm really happy to be part of this moment."
