Leslie Notsi: Lesotho not going to roll over in WC qualifiers

Lesotho coach Leslie Notsi believes they are still very much in with a shot of qualifying for the FIFA World Cup ahead of their clash against Bafana Bafana in Polokwane on Friday.

Likuena are just two points behind South Africa and in fourth place having played the same number of games so far in Group C, which includes Nigeria, Rwanda, Benin and Zimbabwe.

Lesotho have managed one win, two draws and a single defeat – a run that takes into account a point away to Nigeria in their opener.

Notsi says they are not going to roll over.

"With six games to go, it's still wide open because matches that are there to be played for give all the countries an opportunity to secure maximum points and be able to qualify,” Notsi said.

“Yes, of course there are other countries that on paper are the favourites but then they still have to secure those points and qualify for the World Cup.”

Lesotho are on the road for the two qualifiers this month given their next encounter next Tuesday is against Rwanda in Kigali.

Notsi admits this adds to the pressure.

"For us as Lesotho, the upcoming qualifiers are quite crucial for us. We need to secure points, we are playing two away matches which somehow makes it a little bit tight for us but at the same time, as we have been playing our matches away from home, so we are used to this scenario,” the coach added.

“We're gonna have to dig quite deep to secure the points. Playing the favourites like South Africa and Polokwane and also Rwanda in their own backyards.

“It's going to take a lot from us but we believe in ourselves that these are the games that we are always happy to play in terms of us as a small footballing country to improve our game and be a very competitive outfit."
