Mvala makes Bafana return, Broos looks to wrap up AFCON qualification

Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos believes the final 23-man squad selected for the final two AFCON qualifiers this month will get the national team over the line and book their ticket to Morocco next year.

The biggest omission was defender Grant Kekana, who makes way for Mamelodi Sundowns teammate Mothobi Mvala.

Bafana face Uganda away next Friday and host South Sudan in Cape Town four days later, and Broos wants to wrap up qualification in Kampala.

''These two games are very important. We can qualify in Uganda if we win but if we don't - we will have to do it against South Sudan. I think it is also important for me that I can count on nearly always the same players - because everyone knows how we work and everyone knows what we ask. You also create a friendship when you have almost the same players. We will try to win the first game against Uganda, so that we can have a relaxed game against South Sudan,'' said Broos.

Broos elaborated on his decision to leave out Kekana, a key member of the squad at the AFCON earlier this year in Cote d’Ivoire.

''Yeah, that's a choice hey. I have to leave him out because it is a choice from my side. If I take Mvala it is okay? did I have to put out Ngezana, did I have to put out Dortely, did I have to put out Sibisi? It is difficult. It is difficult, as a coach you must make choices, take decisions and they are not always nice. So this is the choice that I made, and I hope it is the right choice,'' added  Broos.

Even without the injured talisman Themba Zwane, the coach said having come a long way with the core group he had little doubt they would make it to a second successive AFCON under his tenure.

''I always had a big confidence in my team and the last two years - I think the performances are there, because the confidence is there between coaches and players. So I know that those guys are hungry and want to go to Morocco next year. They will do everything and we have the quality, we just need the right mentality and I am confident we are going to qualify,'' he expressed.

Broos again omitted Al Ahly striker Percy Tau from the team, adding that he’d prefer the player moves to a new club.
