Williams spent more than a month out of action as he was treating an injury that keeps recurring, and he’s back to lead the team in the two 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Lesotho and Benin, respectively.
Williams says the short break has re-energized him for the business end of the season.
"The slight injury that I had has done me wonders and just receiving a message from Rele Mofokeng of all people, messaging me two weeks ago, saying 'Skips, what's happening, I don't see you playing',” said Williams.
“It just made me feel so happy, I got goosebumps when I saw that message and yet we're gonna come up against each other in a weeks time. So, it has done me wonders, it has refreshed me, it has given me time to just sit back, miss the game and hopefully re-energise in this business end that's coming up now for club and country.
“I'm excited and looking forward to the big games coming up.
With the World Cup qualifiers, Betway Premiership, African Champions League, Nedbank Cup and FIFA Club World Cup all on his menu, Williams says maybe this injury came at the right time.
"Yeah, no it's been good, honestly, no player wants to be injured, so I think it came at the right time for me. I've played enough football over the last few years and the last few months, that injury has done me wonders,” he added.
“I've got more energy now, I'm looking forward to the game, I get excited again. Before it was like, you play every three days, there's no excitement because you're doing it over and over and over and you don't enjoy the game anymore.
“So, yeah, it has done me wonders, it's given me time to relax, to miss the game a bit, just get that spark back because if you could see there was some goals that I conceded that you know normally you don't expect Ronwen to concede those goals.
“We are all human beings, we get tired, we get frustrated and it came for me at the perfect time, where now it's the business end and now I think the team and the country needs me more than maybe before.
“So, yeah, I'm over that, we're looking forward to finishing the year on a good note."
