Mokoena has been one of the outstanding players in Bafana’s four matches so far at this AFCON, having played a total of 360 minutes of football action.
During the team’s biggest victory at this AFCON, knocking out the continent's number one ranked country Morocco, as they beat them 2-0, Mokoena got his man of the match award and a well-taken free-kick to kill off the game.
"Teboho did a fantastic performance today [Tuesday night], he's really the motor of the midfield and he's good for our team also. Teboho grew also in this tournament, he became a little bit good but not like in his last games. He's the guy who makes big distance in the game, have good passes, so, he's a very good player and helps us a lot to do these performances," Broos said.
Orlando Pirates striker Evidence Makgopa has been working with Broos since he arrived in the country in 2021, but went into a bit of wilderness due to an injury after joining Bucs from Baroka FC.
After scoring the opening goal against Morocco, beating the offside line beautifully in the second half, Broos insisted that when there were all sorts of questions against Makgopa, however, he believed in him.
"This is important, like today [Tuesday night], fantastic free kick from Teboho and now Teboho with Makgopa and those who doubted him when he was with us. Makgopa, I've always believed in Makgopa, always but when you work with this guy, he really becomes a very good striker. He proved it today [Tuesday night], he works hard and he made a fantastic goal," Broos added.
Bafana travel from San Pedro to Yamoussoukro on Wednesday where they will resume their preparations for the semifinal against Cape Verde at the Charles Konan Banny Stadium on Saturday night.
