Speaking during the post-match conference of their CAF Champions League Group B clash, Mokwena who saw his team qualify for the quarterfinals after this result is fully aware that the second star is still a bit far to be achieved.
Mokwena was still full of praise for his players for this clinical performance and for qualifying for the last eight with two games to spare.
"The game belonged to the players; they deserve all the praise today but I will be the first to quickly remind them that it's still a long way to go. This result doesn't deliver any trophy and we are business minded people, we want to win trophies. We are here to win trophies, that's what happens in big clubs, we are judged by that," he said.
A brace from Peter Shalulile, a stunning strike from captain Teboho Mokoena, a well taken opening goal from Marcello Allende, and Themba Zwane’s finish, were the goals that kept the close to 40 000 fans at Loftus yesterday entertained. It was the second time Sundowns had put five goals past Ahly, after the unforgettable 5-0 win in 2019, as Mokwena continues to praise the players.
"It has happened before; Sundowns has done it before so we haven’t done anything out of the ordinary. The quality of the football players we have makes it possible. When you've got good football players any result is possible. The game belongs to them and I'm extremely proud of them," he concluded.
